Finishing off our short unit, the children are completing worksheets to show their learning. This week we have started looking at fractions again. Because fractions are often confusing for kids, we are using a different approach in the class for the next few weeks. We are in groups of three, with kids of varying knowledge and participating in hands on activities. Yesterday there were lots of questions among the groups and great discussions. Their brains were working hard!
More photos have been added over the last week as children are using different equipment to find out about fractions.

We have been looking at measurement and how to measure area. Here are the kids using square centimetres to draw pentominoes and to work out the area of items.
As part of our statistics unit, we created questions, collated the answers and formed graphs to show our findings. We then had to explain what our graphs showed. There were questions like; what is your favourite iccecream, what is you favourite phone brand and many more. They are displayed in our room and you are welcome to come and see them anytime.
We have been learning different ways to solve multiplication problems.
Equipment like fly flips help us. We had questions around the classroom that involved using our knowledge of fractions. Through lots of discussing, asking questions and perseverance we solved questions such as: If this is one quarter of a shape, what does the whole look like? or If Olivia had $1.20 and she gave one quarter to Benjamin, how much would he have? Everyone had lots of fun while learning more about fractions, |
