The class had lots of fun planning and creating Christmas trees with a limited amount of resources. They had 25 large sheets of newspaper, 6 pieces of coloured paper, 3 metres of sellotape and 1 metre of tinfoil. There were some interesting creations.
As part of our technology unit, the children are creating two bags with a set amount of items. These bags are to replace plastic grocery bags and, initially must be able to carry a 200 gram bag of lollies. One bag must be able to go over their shoulder, the other just as a carry bag. They have a set amount of string, cardboard, sellotape and paper clips. They have had lots of fun today trialing their creations and making changes to improve them. We are learning about the technological process. We have made marble runs and are now in the process of creating bags to carry groceries.
Here are the miniature gardens that students in the class completed if they were not involved with calf club. Some are created individually and others are created in pairs. We have started to practice for the upcoming athletics. Sometimes we buddy up with other classes and carry out rotations. Here are some photos. Everyone has been busy putting their own ideas to their piece of art that will go into the hall. We first created pieces of art to create our wharenui in the hall. The next step is to fill it with their own piece of art using symbols and ideas to portray what makes them them. A variety of media has been used also - from coloured pencils, sharpies, paint, jovies, dye and indian ink. Have a look in the hall - the wharenui is up and hopefully it will be filled with the rest of the artwork by the end of the first week back.
We visited the LIFE education truck twice in the last week of term to learn about empathy. We watched videos, had discussions and carried out role plays to see how empathy can help us and others. We did get to see Harold too!
Piet Mondrian is a dutch artist who used lines and primary colours a lot in his art pieces. The class had a great time trying to get the lines straight and keeping the colours inside the lines - especially if they chose paint! They could choose which media to use from paint, felts or coloured pencils. |
